Summer Vacation!!

June 26, 2010

We’ve been back for a few weeks, but I definitely wanted to share some images of our family vacation to Myrtle Beach this year.  This was our first “official” vacation for almost 4 years, so needless to say we were so excited to get out of Indiana for a while. Amy’s parents decided to come along with us for the week too.  It was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations I’ve ever had. We had a condo right on the beach and the weather was amazing.  Pretty much everyday started by going to the pool with Ella, then the beach, then to the pool again, and then out for the evening to see the sights.  Amy’s dad and I also got the opportunity to ride in a helicopter and take a small tour of the coastline.  Here are just some of the pictures we took while we were there.

*Some of them are taken on my old Canon AE-1 Film camera. I still LOVE shooting film whenever I can.

Indianapolis IN: It was really fun to hang out with Kristin for the evening a few weeks ago.  She is going to school for fashion so we had  a lot to talk about (fashion is something that both Amy and I really get into!).  She is also a very talented piano player.  One thing I love about the spring/summer is the sunsets.  The light was just beautiful and Kristin was up for anything and had some really kickin outfits. Kristin we wish the best to  you…

One thing that I always try to do is keep learning.  Keep pushing myself as a photographer and placing myself is situations that are challenging.  I love natural light photography.  I love the qualities of natural light. But it has it’s obvious limitations.  The biggest thing I want is to have as many options, to get the best pictures, in any situation.  So what better situation to put myself in, than the night.  No natural light at all and just one flash.

You’ve probably seen Katie and Jared quite a bit here.  They are some of our very best friends and are always up for anything.  This whole shoot is downtown Indianapolis, after dark, trying to creatively use flash.  It was definitely a challenge, but it was so fun.  And I really can’t wait to start integrating this kind of work into our weddings and e-sessions.

Fashion Shoot @ Static Salon

February 1, 2010

Broadripple IN:  Kate is one of our great friends and is the artist behind Rogue Lash.  She approached us about taking pictures for a national competition where she would get some models and completely do the makeup, the hair stylists at Static Salon in Broadripple would do the hair, and we would take the pictures.  We were so stoked about it.  Everyone at Static Salon was so amazing and Kate knocked the makeup out of the park.  Brooke, Lindsay and Kacey (models) were so fun to hang out with and did such a great job.

Fashion photography was one of the main things that got me into taking pictures.  I love looking through fashion magazines and getting different ideas on creative lighting, posing and makeup.  This was definitely a fun shoot for me and we really hope you enjoy it!

Ella & Riley

January 9, 2010

There is something so refreshing when it comes to kids(and dogs I guess).  They don’t have the usual weight of life on their shoulders. Bills, responsibilities, and cares all seem to fly out the window.  Their main concern, is the now.  Having fun right now, living life right now, getting excited about the smallest things, right now.  It’s a good reminder.

Giving Back…

November 30, 2009

A little backstory: Brookside is on the east side of Indianapolis.  Our church has actively been involved in after school programs, Kids Church, mentoring programs, and so much more in the Brookside neighborhood.   We have seen so many people blessed by these ministries and it makes us so happy to see the mission of the church helping people in the here and now.  From the moment we heard College Park was going to help out with Brookside we were always looking for opportunities to help out in any way.  One of our good friends works with the kids every saturday at Kids Church and after a few conversations thought it would be a fantastic idea to offer free photos to the families in Brookside.

Right now, in this financial climate it’s hard for everyone, but alot of these families have been hit the hardest.  What we have to offer isn’t huge, taking a picture is just that.  We aren’t curing cancer here, but we hope that they felt beautiful and blessed when they were with us…

Halloween…

October 22, 2009

Halloween is literally one of Amy’s favorite holidays.  She loves having parties, dressing up, the whole bit.  So when this time of year comes around we always try to make it a big deal.  Ella already loves to dress up so she really has a great time with it, and since Harper can’t talk yet we’ll just say she loves it too :) So usually we try to have a little photo shoot with the girls before Trick or Treating because  inevitably there will be tons of chocolate, which means tons of chocolate on whatever Ella is wearing.  So a few days ago we went to a nearby field to get these pictures.

p.s. These first few are from earlier in the day when we went to the park.  85% of Ella’s pictures are when she is on a swing.  She could swing for hours if she could.

The Girls

September 15, 2009

It seems like these last few weeks/months have flown by.  I can’t believe that we are already half way through September!  Amy and I have just felt so blessed lately with the addition of Harper Augustana to our family.  She is such a good baby and Ella is a great big sister.  She is already feeding her bottles and wanting to hold her all the time.  Last night we were watching a movie and Ella was holding Harper and they were both sitting just looking at each other. Quite. Content. It was beautiful.

Ella also started preschool which we are really excited about.  She is doing so good and absolutely loves it.  Amy and I are so thankful that God has blessed us so much with our family.  We never want to take for granted their little smiles, cries, laughs, and looks.  Children has an uncanny ability to see things and live life to the fullest extent.  At times (most times) I think they have a better grasp on living than we do.

Ella has been my inspiration to pick up the camera, and she continues to be that.  Taking pictures of the girls is one of the most rewarding things we do.  Capturing small moments of their story is just beautiful.
